Sam Woolford was a journalist for the San Antonio Light from 1919 to 1950, serving as Sunday editor and city editor. From 1955 to 1975, the Light published a weekly column on Texas life and history, Woolford's Tales, for which Mr. Woolford is best known. Mr. Woolford's wife Bess, also a writer, is known for her history of the Witte Museum, among other works. They shared an interest in Texas history and culture.
